The Essex County Dental Society has donated $25,000 to the John McGivney Children's Centre for the continued dental care of our special needs community. This dental program is designed to assist families of patients with cleft lip and/or palate, craniofacial syndromes and severe dental dysfunction. Dr. Janisse is the orthodontic consultant and a member of the Cleft Lip and Palate team in the Maxillofacial-Speech Clinic at the John McGivney Children's Centre.

A UNIQUE PHILANTHROPIC ENDEAVOUR
In order to obtain superior photographic images of the teeth Dr. Jeff Berger designed an intra-oral mirror, which was created by Riofoto, a division of the EMF Corporation. The company, located in Ithaca, NY, provides thin-film coating for a broad range of application markets including instrumentation and display systems used in medical, optical, automotive and astronomical environments.

Together with Dr. Berger, who has waived any financial interest in the product, the EMF corporation agreed to designate 20% of the net profits from the sale of the Berger buccal mirrors and the Berger Mirror Set to support The Centre for Craniofacial Care and Research at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto, Canada.
The Division of Plastic and Craniofacial Surgery at SickKids is involved in research and treatment of facial anomalies of the face, head, neck, upper extremity and vascular systems. It also deals with acute repair and late reconstruction following trauma, including burns, to the face and upper limbs as well as other multidisciplinary programs including those involving the Cleft Lip and Palate Program, the Congenital Hand Program and the Facial Paralysis Program.
